October – Sandton CBD
Sandton update: Getting into the CBD during October
Public transport, cyclists and pedestrians will be given preference on the streets of Sandton during the month-long EcoMobility World Festival in October. Road use will be changed on some of the streets in the Sandton CBD as well as some of the streets leading into Sandton.
TAM will continue to provide updates in the days leading up to the start of the festival to help you advise travellers on the appropriate means to enter the district because, as the City of Johannesburg’s executive director of transport Lisa Seftel recently revealed, the infrastructural changes made on Sandton’s streets for the Ecomobility Festival will eventually become permanent once the festival is over.
In addition to the dedicated public transport and cycle lanes introduced on William Nicol, Republic Road and other streets leading into Sandton, the City of Johannesburg will also introduce park and ride options to complement the public transport offering in the city.
The City of Johannesburg has also provided detailed information for those travelling from Johannesburg North, South, West and East. Private-sector partners will be able to operate shuttle services with vehicles that transport eight or more passengers along the public transport loop (comprising Rivonia Road, Fredman Drive and Fifth Street). Within the Sandton precinct, there will be an Ecomobile fleet available. Final details of this service are currently being finalised.
